About Dr. Cimino

Dr. Cimino is a clinical psychologist currently working full-time as an embedded psychologist in an acute psychiatric inpatient unit.

Dr. Kimberly Cimino

She has, prior, trained in nearly every level of care from community mental health to intensive outpatient and academic settings. The observational skill and interprofessional contact between patients and staff required for inpatient work have served to develop a strong eye for seeing the various ways patient presentations may appear and how enactments may occur in different contexts. This skill has been developed particularly in also understanding what interventions are necessary for short-term vs long-term goals and leveraging inpatient vs outpatient therapeutic aims.

Her clinical work includes diagnostic formulation and treatment at the individual, group, and milieu levels. She provides leadership around milieu management in tandem with nurse managers and offers staff psychoeducation. Consulting with social work and psychiatric providers on formulation is central to her role, and she engages in occasional teaching with psychiatry residents. She serves as the primary supervisor for predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows rotating through Adult Inpatient as part of APA-accredited training.

Dr. Cimino has particular clinical expertise in personality pathology and in developing an intentional assimilative integrated formulation that draws from psychodynamic theory and dialectical behavior therapy. Her approach integrates understanding the function of behavior and interpersonal patterns within the broader psychological and environmental context which may lead to various enactments in the therapeutic relationship or milieu setting.

She has approximately three years of licensed experience providing clinical consultation to interprofessional providers across child and adult inpatient units, as well as consultation to providers in other healthcare settings.
